Sketches of the Day

October 1st, 2011

Each year on the 1st Sat of Oct. – Pisgah National Forest (Discovery Center) has a fund raiser.  Events from axe throwing to fiddling.  Exhibitors are fiddle makers, and artists who set up their wares and enjoy the day.  This event is is accompanied with food and entertainment.  I provide the arts for the children – paper, colored pencils and some educational fun and sometimes sketches sell.  Today, I was busy sketching, completed one and then did another.  Before I could mat the second, the first sold, and then the second sold to this group of 2 sets of twin girls.

Sometimes it takes more than once…

to get a painting the way you want it.  This is from a photo of my grandniece (facebook photos) who lives about 3 hours from me in Western NC – My painting teachers always emphasized that we should do a painting at least six times, before we would be satisfied.  Here is 1 of them – 5 to go….

Been a while since I’ve posted, but many things have happened – I’m due for surgery Aug 17th – will be in hospital for 5 days and then 3-6 months recovery – a partially new knee – so the outcome should be very positive. Read the rest of this entry »

Positive shapes create negative shapes.

Positive shapes create negative shapes.

Artists play with positive and negative shapes; they share the same edge. In watercolor, the white of the paper winds up being the negative shape and can be quite stark as shown in the exercise below.
